Later updates that will bring it more in line with the PC version, should introduce a hidden zone called “The End” which has to be found and accessed then won by defeating a dragon. So what’s the aim of the game? Well, that’s just it, there isn’t one. Indeed, once you start to try to build anything more creative than a box, the blocks simply add to the challenge of trying to make things look good and it won’t be long before you’re mastering that. Don’t be put off by the primitive looking “8Bit” graphics, before long, you won’t even notice. You see, this is a many faceted title that can be played in many ways with infinite possibilities. Nearly 15quid lighter I began to learn what all of the fuss was about… One more play with the tutorial and a little extra nudge from a couple of friends and I hit the “BUY” button. Calling on my faithful friend YouTube for help, I watched a couple of vids and it all started to become clear. It still made no sense but I wasn’t going to give up. With an hour or so to spare one evening, I decided to give the tutorial another look. Despite my protests, people were constantly telling me that I was missing out and really needed to take the plunge. I even tried the demo just out of curiosity…it made no sense and held no appeal for me at all.

So as with any lawless land, there appears to be a power struggle going on, ultimately surrounding the potential existence and possible location of a place called The Vault. A little robot known by the witty acronym of CLAPTRAP greets you excitedly to set you off on the first of many quests. A moment of bewilderment before your new “friend” pops up, keen as mustard and ready to hold your hand through the tutorial beginning of this brilliant game.

Reading the various skills that are available assures you that you are about to begin a role playing game of sorts. You are given a choice of 4 characters to play as before you are dropped from the bus at the edge of town. Little innuendos and quips from overtly distinctive characters put a smile on your face which is unlikely to fade for a while as you travel deeper into this fantastical, post apocalyptic world. In keeping with the “cartoon” styling, the comedy begins straight off the bat. In an era of games striving to get the graphics as highly polished and realistic as possible, it’s both a surprise and a pleasure to see the gloriously detailed cell shaded images filling your plasma. The first thing that gets your attention as the initial plot setting scenes play through is how it looks. However, spotting it for £6 pre owned, I thought it was worth a punt.Īlthough everything that I’d heard had been positive, I wasn’t expecting much when I dropped it into the tray of the 360. I originally perceived it as an RPG which, until I discovered Skyrim, was something that I wasn’t interested in.
